Five people were convicted of the fatal wounding of a 34-year-old on the evening of New Year's Day 2025. The main perpetrator was sentenced to life imprisonment, whilst three accomplices received 10 years.

A court in Giannitsa has sentenced to life imprisonment the primary person responsible for the death of a 34-year-old man in central Serres on the evening of 1 January 2025. Three other participants were convicted of ten-year prison sentences for complicity, while a fifth person was acquitted of all charges.
The convicted men, aged between 28 and 31, were granted no mitigating circumstances. Immediately after the verdict was announced, they were returned to the cells where they had been held in custody since the previous January.
According to efsyn.gr, the man sentenced to life imprisonment was found responsible as the direct perpetrator of the manslaughter. The victim suffered fatal wounds from a military knife.
The three accomplices were found guilty of complicity in manslaughter. The court ruled that they participated in the violent assault with blows, whilst one of them also fired a blank shot into the air with a pistol. Additionally, they were imposed penalties for dangerous bodily harm, fighting, reckless gunfire, and violations of weapons legislation.
As emerged from the case file, the bloody altercation began from a quarrel between the victim and an employee at the entrance of an entertainment establishment. The 34-year-old had sought to pass ahead in line. Later, the employee together with others located the unfortunate man near a grilled meat establishment and beat him to death.
