Victim of 43-year-old in Kypseli case: "He brought African friends to rape me as punishment"
Newsit.gr reveals the statement of a 45-year-old German woman who in 2020 was a victim of the 43-year-old who was arrested for the murder of an infant in Kypseli. The man, referred to in the statement as "Vasilis", had imprisoned her in an apartment in Patisia, forced her through torture to engage in prostitution and took all her money.
The 43-year-old was arrested at the time, held in pre-trial detention and released from Korydallos prison on 26 October 2020. The same statement also refers to his partner — now a co-defendant — whom the 43-year-old also forced to engage in prostitution, and when he brought clients home she would take her children and leave.
The chronicle of an entrapment
The German woman described to Organised Crime officers how she met the 43-year-old via Facebook while travelling in Turkey. "I realised I was starting to fall in love with him and I felt that Vasilis was also falling in love with me," she stated. In December, before her entrapment, she travelled to Greece for two weeks, stayed in a hotel and, as she said, "we went for walks and visited tourist attractions". The man had told her he was hosting his ex-wife — a 30-year-old German woman — in his house for financial reasons. They had exchanged rings and he spoke to her about marriage.
On 4 March 2020 she returned to Greece for the second time. After three days in a hotel, the 43-year-old persuaded her to move into his house. "From the moment I went to his house everything changed," she stated. He immediately took 700 euros she had with her and then asked her to "help with expenses" by having sex with other men.
Torture and sexual exploitation
When she refused, the 43-year-old began to hit her. "He started punching and kicking me all over my body, he pulled me by my hair dragging me through the house, he tore tufts of hair from my head and began to strangle me with his hands around my neck," she said in her statement. He removed her mobile phone and passport and kept her locked in the apartment.
A few days later the exploitation regime began. The 43-year-old had posted an advertisement on the internet with photographs of the woman in underwear, while the calls from clients were answered by his co-defendant German partner, under coercion. The appointments — 4 to 5 a day before the pandemic crisis and 2 to 3 afterwards, each for 100 euros — took place at the house, in hotels or at clients' residences. "From all the appointments I carried out, Vasilis did not give me a single euro," she stated.
The violence did not stop. "Every time I refused to go to an appointment or when he found out that clients were not satisfied he became terribly violent," she said. "He hit me all over my body, he held me under the sink trying to drown me or he would take a sheet and wrap it around my neck, and he also had an iron rod with which he beat me. He also established as punishment that two African friends of his would come home to rape me and beat me."
Fear and plan for sale
According to the statement, the 43-year-old was planning to "sell" the woman to a third party to work in brothels in Greece. The Organised Crime officers who arrested the 43-year-old were investigating whether behind the Facebook "Greek lover" was a wider ring of pimps.
The woman herself provided details about her background: she grew up in foster care as her biological parents — with four other children — were unable to support her, she worked as a gardener and then trained as a security guard. Before she came to Greece she was in a relationship with a member of a motorcycle club, from which she distanced herself by travelling to Turkey — where the 43-year-old sent her a Facebook friend request.
