Felony charges against 22 arrested for illegal OPEKEPE subsidies in Crete
The European Public Prosecutor's Office has brought felony charges against 22 people arrested in Crete for illegal subsidies via OPEKEPE. Among them are two accountants and an active deputy mayor.

According to tomanifesto.gr, the European Public Prosecutor's Office has brought felony criminal charges against 22 arrested individuals involved in the case of illegal European subsidies via OPEKEPE in Crete.
The arrested individuals are from areas of Heraklion, Rethymno and Lasithi and were brought before the Greek-assigned European prosecutors on the morning of the charges. The charges, which differ by case, include forming and joining a criminal organisation for the purpose of committing fraud offences, directing a criminal organisation and subsidy fraud.
Among the accused are two accountants, who are alleged to have held the leading role in the organisation and to have coordinated the actions of the other members from 2019 to 2024. The list also includes three managers of Document Reception Centres (KYD), including an active deputy mayor.
