The case came to light when the minor visited a gynaecologist with her mother. The findings of the examination were, according to information reported by kerkyrasimera.gr, indicative of abuse, which prompted the relevant authorities to launch an investigation.
The testimony of the girl's 9-year-old brother is reported to play a decisive role in the case file. According to ERT, the boy stated that the 51-year-old locked his sister in his room when their mother, grandmother and uncle were absent. The 9-year-old also said he heard his sister crying and claimed that the accused had threatened him to prevent him from revealing what was happening.
A new dimension to the case is provided by the complaint of the girl's 28-year-old mother. According to ERT information, she is reported to have claimed that she herself was a victim of abuse by her father until she was 16 years old.
The 51-year-old was arrested and brought before the prosecutor on Thursday, 10 September, when he was given a deadline to enter his defence. After his defence statement, he was remanded in custody and is to be transferred to prison. He denies the charges.
