Chania: 16-year-old altered birth date on gov.gr to buy alcohol – three arrests
A 16-year-old minor used a forged digital identity through gov.gr to purchase alcohol in Chania. Three people were arrested, including the teenager's mother and the shop manager.
Forgery of digital identity by 16-year-old in Chania – three arrests
A 16-year-old was found consuming alcohol in a health-interest premises in Chania during routine checks by the Greek Police. Verification of his details revealed that he had modified his birth date on a digital identity through the gov.gr platform so that he would appear to be an adult.
According to Dikastiko.gr, the police investigation confirmed the forgery of the details and led to three arrests. The minor had used the forged digital identity in order to obtain alcohol, bypassing age checks.
The 16-year-old was arrested on a charge of forgery. The 26-year-old manager of the shop was also arrested on a charge of exposure, as he is alleged to have sold alcohol to the minor without verifying the authenticity of the details shown to him.
As part of the same case, the 39-year-old mother of the 16-year-old was also arrested. An indictment was drawn up against her for neglect of supervision of a minor. The case continues to be investigated by the competent police authorities.
