Chania: 60-year-old threatened tenant with axe over electricity bill dispute
A 60-year-old from Kisamos, Chania, is being referred to the prosecutor on charges of extortion and threatening a 69-year-old tenant of Romanian origin.

A 60-year-old Greek man from the Kisamos area of Chania will be referred to the prosecutor tomorrow for serious offences, following an extortion incident related to a financial dispute over an electricity bill.
According to ERT sources, the 60-year-old entered his tenant's house—a 69-year-old man of Romanian origin—while holding an axe and a kitchen knife. The tenant had paid the rent but disputed the amount of the electricity bill. The perpetrator threatened him and ultimately extracted a sum of money from him.
The victim reported the incident to the authorities. During the investigation, police discovered weapons at the 69-year-old's residence—a fact that added new charges to the case.
The 60-year-old appeared before the prosecutor yesterday, was granted an adjournment, and will give his statement on Friday 29 May. He faces charges of extortion, threatening behaviour endangering another person's life, illegal possession and carrying of weapons, illegal possession of ammunition, illegal possession of a hunting rifle, and illegal possession of a flare launcher device.
