Chania: Chilling details emerge in murder of 45-year-old woman
The tenant is said to have murdered 45-year-old Stavrula Leventaki in Chania in cold blood, according to a statement he gave to the prosecution authorities. He described in detail the manner in which he took the woman's life and subsequently proceeded with everyday activities.
The victim visited the accused's house on 30 May in order to inspect the property as stipulated by the rental agreement. The perpetrator stated that they drank beer together and that the woman subsequently made romantic advances towards him, which he claims he avoided.
According to his statement, he initially struck her with a bottle, then stabbed her twice in the heart with a knife and finally finished her off by striking her on the head with a piece of wood.
What provokes outrage and shock is his behaviour after the crime. The man claimed that he video called his wife, who was in Gavdo. Immediately afterwards he went to a bakery, bought sweets and visited an acquaintance, behaving as if he had committed no crime whatsoever.
The perpetrator is originally from Skopje and came to Greece with his family in 1996. Since 2022 he had been renting half of Leventaki's house in the Varypetra area of Chania, initially paying 300 euros per month. When the owner acquired the entire property, the rent increased to 600 euros, an amount he deposited into her bank account.
In his statement he claimed that Leventaki had been attempting to develop their relationship into a romantic one and that they had disagreed many times over matters concerning the maintenance of the house. The case file that has been compiled against him includes the offence of intentional homicide.
