Unknown individuals are attempting to defraud citizens in Chania by sending messages via WhatsApp and falsely invoking the name of the Hellenic Red Cross. The perpetrators are requesting monetary contributions for a purported fundraiser in support of the organisation's regional branch in the area.
The Hellenic Red Cross has issued a statement categorically denying any connection with the specific activity. The organisation clarifies that it is not organising a fundraiser in Chania and that these messages constitute an attempted fraud.
At the same time, it is calling on citizens who receive similar messages to contact its offices directly on telephone numbers 28210 52550 and 28210 43321, in order for the necessary legal procedures to be initiated.
