After twenty-four days of searching, authorities in Chania proceeded today with the arrest of a 43-year-old tenant, accused of the murder of 45-year-old Stavroula who had gone missing since 30 May.

The suspect, who initially denied any involvement, ultimately confessed to the act and showed police the burial site. He was subsequently brought before an investigating magistrate and prosecutor, where the relevant charges were filed against him and he was given a deadline to present his defence.

A specialist team from the capital, which was called to examine the suspect's residence and vehicle, proved decisive. Despite the perpetrator's efforts to eliminate all traces—cleaning the interior of the vehicle and apartment with bleach—specialists found biological material that was identified as matching the victim.

Specifically, two blood stains were found inside the van, whilst similar traces were discovered inside the house, at a distance from the television. These findings proved to be the key to bringing him in.

The funeral of the unfortunate woman will be held tomorrow in Varypatero, Chania.
