Police in Chania proceeded to arrest two taxi drivers after they allegedly charged excessive amounts to their customers, according to reports by ERT.
The operation was carried out on Thursday evening, when police conducted a random check in the Courthouse area. Officers from the Hellenic Police identified two taxi drivers, aged 67 and 51, who had picked up passengers in their vehicles and charged them double the standard fares.
Particularly concerning was the case of the 51-year-old, who was operating routes without holding the required professional licence. His licence had previously been suspended for a period of 30 days due to another violation.
Both drivers were taken into custody and are expected to be brought before judicial authorities under the flagrante delicto procedure.
