Michalis Chrysochoidis, the head of the Ministry for Citizen Protection, acknowledged that the uniformed officers involved in the incident in Argos did not act correctly, whilst dismissing as "myths" reports circulating about the case.
In an interview with radio station SKAI 100.3, Mr Chrysochoidis stressed that the work of the Greek Police is to identify and apprehend criminals, not to take lives. "Here the police officers did not act properly. They overstepped and a human life was lost," he stated, adding that the case will be examined by criminal courts.
The minister also denied scenarios linking recent arrests in connection with the attack on Marfin to an anonymous email message. As he explained, the progress of the investigation is due to the systematic work of the Hellenic Police. "Not because some email arrived. All these police officers sat down and worked for two years," he stressed.
According to him, the findings of the investigation into Marfin are reliable and have already been handed over to the judicial authorities. He acknowledged that in the past mistakes had been made in handling the case, recalling that individuals who had been referred to court in 2014 were ultimately acquitted.
