Theft of 1,580 kilograms of copper from photovoltaic park in Farsala – two arrests
Police have solved a theft of a large quantity of copper from a photovoltaic park construction site in Farsala. A 38-year-old was arrested, while a 32-year-old is included in the case file.

The Farsala Police Department has solved a case of theft of a large quantity of copper from a photovoltaic park construction site in the wider Farsala area, according to ERT.
In the early morning hours of the previous day, police conducted a check on a passenger vehicle in the Farsala area. During the check, the 38-year-old driver was found to be in possession of a small quantity of raw cannabis, which was immediately seized.
A subsequent investigation revealed the man's connection to the copper theft case. According to the evidence obtained, in the afternoon of the previous day the 38-year-old, at the direction of a 32-year-old, loaded a significant quantity of copper onto a truck owned by a relative. The purpose was to transport and deliver the material to a metals recycling company in Thessaly, in exchange for payment.
Police located and inspected the truck, which was loaded with scrap iron. At the bottom of the vehicle, a quantity of copper from cables was found hidden, with a total weight of 1,580 kilograms.
According to ERT, the copper had been removed in the early morning hours of 25 May 2026 from the photovoltaic park construction site. The material was returned to the project manager.
The 38-year-old was arrested and is charged with possession of narcotic substances. The 32-year-old is included in the case file for receiving and disposing of proceeds of crime. For the theft itself, an unidentified perpetrator is being sought.
