Firefighters arrested a woman in Corinthia who is alleged to have set fire to dry grass using an open flame.

On the afternoon of Sunday, 28 June, a fire broke out in an area of dry vegetation in Corinthia. Fire service personnel who rushed to the scene managed to bring it under control and subsequently identify the cause.
Following the investigation that ensued, authorities identified a 57-year-old woman, who is alleged to have used a lit object to ignite the fire. The woman was arrested immediately and is expected to be brought before a prosecutor.
This is the ninth case of intentional arson to be cleared up since the beginning of the current year. According to official figures, by 28 June 2026, a total of 134 apprehensions have been made for violations of legislation concerning fire safety. Of these, only 9 cases (a proportion of 6.72 per cent) are related to deliberate fire-raising, whilst the overwhelming majority of 125 incidents (93.28 per cent) are due to negligence.
The specialist service that investigates arson offences, along with the investigative services of the Fire Service, maintain high vigilance and carry out systematic checks throughout the country.
