Journalist Thanasis Kougkakis has once again appealed to the Office of the Prosecutor of the Court of Cassation, seeking to have the telephone interception case, which had been filed away, re-examined.
Through his legal representative, Mr Kougkakis has filed an application for the withdrawal of the case file, invoking recent public statements by Tal Dilian, who founded and runs the company Intellexa. The company operates in the field of surveillance software.
In his application, the journalist requests that the four individuals who have already been convicted in the case be called before the judicial authorities to give evidence again and to submit supplementary documents, taking into account the new information that has come to light.
Furthermore, Mr Kougkakis is requesting that five executives of Intellexa be examined, who—as he states—have not been charged to date, yet possess information that could shed light on the case.
The case concerns surveillance of journalists and other individuals through surveillance software, which had caused a political scandal and led to international reactions.
