Officers of the Xanthi Prevention and Mediation Team managed to apprehend a teenager who had escaped from a young offenders' detention facility in Volos, according to reporting by ERT.

The minor, of Roma origin, fled to Thrace immediately after his escape. There, working with two accomplices, he carried out break-ins at three homes in the area. From these premises they removed valuable items, including gold jewellery, watches and smart devices.

The perpetrator's carelessness proved to be the critical factor that led to his arrest. Specifically, he failed to disable the last mobile phone he had stolen, with the result that authorities located him through the signal being transmitted by the device.

The locating operation was carried out using an unmanned aircraft (drone). Material released to the public shows representatives of the authorities and the aircraft monitoring from a safe distance the Roma settlement at Drosero. When the aircraft identified the residence being used as a hideout by the young man, the operation to bring him in was launched.
