Xanthi: Three arrests for 20 thefts in 51 days – one resisted
Three Greek nationals were arrested in Xanthi for 20 thefts over 51 days. Two further accomplices are being sought.

Arrests in Xanthi for series of thefts from homes and businesses
Three Greek nationals were arrested in Xanthi on 1 July 2026 in the morning, following a coordinated police operation that led to the resolution of twenty theft cases. As reported by ERT, the offences were committed in the period from 11 May to 1 July 2026, in settlements and in the city of Xanthi.
Of the twenty cases, sixteen were completed thefts and four remained at the attempted stage. The arrest operation was undertaken by the Public Security Team of the Crime Prosecution and Investigation Department of Xanthi, in cooperation with the Prevention and Mediation Team of Xanthi and the Unmanned Aircraft Office of the General Regional Police Directorate of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace. One of those arrested resisted during the arrest.
Two further accomplices are being sought: one Greek national whose details have been identified, and one as yet unknown accomplice.
According to the findings of the investigation, the perpetrators broke into one vehicle, two businesses and three homes, whilst also entering ten unsecured houses. From these, various items were removed including sums of money, a generator, tobacco products, bank cards, a watch, a bracelet, electronic devices, wireless earphones, mobile phones, documents, keys and sunglasses.
In three further homes they entered without removing anything, whilst in another attempted break-in they were detected and fled.
Outstanding serious criminal cases are pending against two of the three arrested individuals. One has an arrest warrant for multiple cases of theft. Against the other, five decisions are pending regarding the formation and participation in a criminal organisation, robbery, complicity in robbery, theft, breaches of the weapons law and dangerous bodily harm.
During searches of the homes of those arrested, a mobile phone, clothing items and footwear were seized. The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by the Crime Prosecution and Investigation Department of Xanthi.
