Dismantling of vehicle theft gang in Attica – 23 cases, stolen goods valued at over €350,000

Eight members of an organised gang, aged 18 to 60, are in police custody following an operation that dismantled a vehicle and motorcycle theft ring operating in Attica. According to Newsit.gr, the gang is believed to have obtained stolen goods valued at more than €350,000, with their criminal activity extending at least from late 2025.

The operation was carried out on the night of 29 September in Kamatero, Peristeri and Acharnes, with the assistance of the Special Operations Unit. Six individuals were arrested on the spot and two others were arrested later following the issuance of warrants against them.

Modus operandi

The gang members operated mainly during night-time hours, identifying target vehicles and proceeding to steal them. For motorcycles, according to police, they would bypass or circumvent anti-theft systems and use other motorcycles to transport them.

To avoid detection, they would leave stolen vehicles temporarily in public spaces in order to check whether they were fitted with tracking devices. Each member had a specific role: the alleged leader coordinated the operation and funded the group, whilst the others took charge of stealing, transporting and channelling vehicles onto the market.

Findings from investigations

During searches at the residences of the accused, 13 stolen and altered vehicles were seized, along with spare parts, fake number plates, tracking devices and signal jamming equipment, as well as tools and mobile phones. Three vehicles were also found which, according to police, were used as operational vehicles by the group.

23 thefts across seven areas

To date, 23 vehicle thefts have been solved in Haidari, Peristeri, Agioi Anargyroi, Ilion, Nikaia, Acharnes and Palaio Faliro. The investigation into the full extent of the group's criminal activity is continuing.
