Kypseli: Authorities examine whether parents gave drugs to nine-month-old baby – DNA, Illuminati and children's testimonies

Police are investigating whether the two parents administered drugs to their nine-month-old baby to stop it from crying. The two older children reportedly knew about the body in the freezer.

Baby in freezer: The scenario with drugs and children's testimonies

According to Ta Nea, police are investigating the possibility that a 43-year-old man and a 38-year-old German woman administered drugs to their baby in order to stop it from crying. The Kypseli case, in which the dead baby was initially found in a freezer and subsequently in a suitcase, continues to reveal new details.

Authorities are continuing to gather evidence, placing particular emphasis on the testimonies of the three older children, so as to accurately reconstruct the timeline of the eight-month-old baby's murder. The two older children reportedly stated to authorities that they knew about the body in the freezer and described the transfer of the dead body in a suitcase when the family was moving house.

Parents' claims and contradictions

The arrested parents stated to authorities that the baby had presented serious health problems from an early age and cried incessantly. The symptoms they described—feeding difficulties, vomiting, intestinal problems and prolonged crying—suggest neonatal withdrawal syndrome, which is not ruled out, as both parents were drug users.

However, the parents contradict themselves: they cannot explain the pre-mortem stab wounds found on the baby's body, claiming that the injuries resulted from their attempt to break the ice around the child. Equally unanswered remains why they did not call a doctor.

The couple's lawyer, Christos Psarras, stated to Ertnews that his clients deny that they killed the baby, citing natural causes of death. Psarras acknowledged that the parents confessed to "many mistakes" and an inability to fulfil their parental responsibilities. He also requested psychiatric evaluation for both, estimating that they suffer from conditions that neurologically affect their functioning.

Neonatal withdrawal syndrome: what experts say

Dimitra Metallinnou, assistant professor of Midwifery at the University of Western Attica, explained to Live News what neonatal withdrawal syndrome is: "It is a set of symptoms exhibited by a newborn when during pregnancy it has been exposed to substances and medicines that can cause dependency. They are transferred through the placenta."

The symptoms of the syndrome include, according to Metallinnou: "Acute crying, trembling, increased muscle tone, difficulty sleeping, vomiting, diarrhoea, difficulty feeding." The mother has admitted that she is a chronic user of substances, a fact that gives particular weight to this possibility. Whether the baby actually suffered from such a syndrome has not been confirmed and is expected to be investigated through tests.

DNA and Illuminati

The results of a DNA test, as revealed by MEGA, confirmed that the 15-year-old, the 12-year-old and the dead baby are biological children of the 43-year-old man and the 38-year-old woman. For the nine-year-old boy, however, the picture is different: the child is biologically the 38-year-old's but not the 43-year-old's, despite her claims.

The 43-year-old defendant has also mentioned to authorities Illuminati, baby substitution at the maternity hospital and a "demonic" child, stating: "In the past I was involved with the Illuminati. They told me they would give me 2.5 million euros, but I had to make an oral agreement that I would be with them and would sell my soul to the devil… To take revenge on me, the Illuminati switched the baby at the hospital. The baby they eventually gave us had health problems from the start. It cried 23 hours a day and slept for one hour."

The three children and the 26-year-old

The family consisted of the dead baby, the 15-year-old—who is pregnant by the Afghan man who was living in their house—the 13-year-old and the nine-year-old boy. The 15-year-old also exhibits withdrawal syndrome. The mental health condition of all three minor children remains unclear, and there had previously been complaints about dangerous living conditions. Today they are in a safe location, under state protection.

The two accused parents together with the 26-year-old were taken to Evelpidon and were given a deadline to make their defence statements on Tuesday.

The Kypseli case has revealed the extent of the conditions under which the baby's three older siblings were growing up—amid drugs and abysmal conditions, far from any safe environment.
