Kypseli: Eight-month-old infant dead from 18 stab wounds – three arrests on Thassos Street

A dead eight-month-old infant was found concealed in a pink suitcase in a flat in Kypseli. Three adults were arrested, with the 43-year-old father claiming the baby was "possessed".

Kypseli: Infant murdered with 18 stab wounds found hidden in suitcase

Police located a dead eight-month-old infant on 30 August 2026 inside a flat on Thassos Street in Kypseli after the building manager called the police when the family refused to open the door immediately. The infant was wrapped in a red insulated bag, concealed inside a pink suitcase, over which rubbish bags and wrapping with a red substance, suspected to be blood, were found. According to Newsit.gr, three adults were arrested immediately and brought before the prosecutor on Monday, 31 August 2026.

18 stab wounds and a fatal blow to the neck

The pathologist determined that the infant sustained a total of 18 stab wounds: three ante-mortem and 15 post-mortem. One of the ante-mortem stab wounds, on the back at the level of the neck, was ruled fatal. According to police correspondent Vasilis Lampropoulou, the child may have been sleeping face-down at the time of the attack, and the body bore no other bruises or signs of previous abuse — a detail suggesting a single sudden attack.

"There is a fatal stab wound inflicted on the child's back, at the level of the neck, and a further 15 stab wounds were inflicted on the body of the unfortunate baby which are post-mortem," Lampropoulou stated.

"The Illuminati gave us the wrong baby"

The 43-year-old Greek father, who appears to be the main suspect in the murder, allegedly claimed in his statement that the baby was not his child. He stated that the maternity hospital staff gave them the wrong infant and accused the Illuminati of replacing it.

"The baby cried all the time and my wife was down. They switched it on us at the maternity hospital and gave us another one that was possessed, and as soon as it died our house was peaceful," the 43-year-old allegedly testified.

Before the pathology report was announced, he had also previously claimed to authorities that the infant had died two years earlier from natural causes due to stomach problems. He explained that he did not report it to the authorities because he feared his other children would be taken away: "I did not have the strength to report it, because the police would have taken it from me if I presented a dead child."

Drugs and 26-year-old Afghan in the flat

Living in the flat together with the 43-year-old and his 38-year-old German partner were three minor children: a 15-year-old pregnant girl and two boys aged 12 and 9. Also present was a 26-year-old Afghan, who claimed to be the partner of the pregnant minor. According to Lampropoulou, the 26-year-old is registered with the police as a drug dealer who sold hashish, cocaine and other substances in central Athens.

"This is a case of drug trafficking and cold-blooded murder of the child," the police correspondent stated. The pathological examination concluded that the murder is likely connected with drug use, as the perpetrator reportedly killed the baby because it was crying.

The building manager who called the police

The family had lived in the flat for less than a month. Due to complaints about uncleanliness in common areas and reports of drug use, the owner did not renew the lease and the family was asked to vacate. When the building manager went to check the flat and notify them, the couple asked for "ten to fifteen minutes" before opening the door.

"That and the reports about drugs made me call the police," the building manager claimed. The flat owner confirmed the facts when speaking to Newsit.gr: "The building manager went to the house to inform them that they would need to leave and to check the flat, but they would not open the door immediately. They told him they needed ten to fifteen minutes and then he suspected something and called the police."

What the police found in the flat

Inside the same pink suitcase that contained the dead infant, a small shovel, a blue blanket and a sex toy were also found. In the couple's luggage, seven sex toys, a black mask, a camera, a computer and a memory stick were discovered. Additionally, LED cameras, laptop computers and small quantities of drugs were found in the flat.

The 38-year-old, as soon as the infant was located, told the authorities that it was her child who had died eight months earlier and she had kept it in the freezer. The pathologist immediately ordered DNA samples to be taken to establish whether the couple are indeed the infant's biological parents. Police took statements from both the three adults and the three children aged 15, 12 and 9 who were in the flat.
