The 15-year-old pregnant girl in the case of the dead infant in Kypséli has been found to be addicted to drugs. The arrested individuals are to be brought before an investigating judge on Wednesday, 2 September.
New revelations in Kypséli infant case: addiction, drug tablets and 18 stab wounds
According to Newsit.gr, new information has emerged in the case of the dead 9-month-old infant found in a container and suitcase in a short-term rental apartment in Kypséli. The 15-year-old daughter of the family, who is pregnant, was determined by doctors at a gynaecological clinic to be addicted to drugs — a finding that came to light during examinations of both her and the foetus.
The minor was found in the apartment along with other underage boys and a 26-year-old man who claims to be her partner. It had previously been reported that two of the family's three children are suffering from sexually transmitted infections.
18 wounds and corpse in deep freeze
The 9-month-old boy had sustained a total of 18 knife wounds — three inflicted before death and 15 after death. The exact date and time of death could not be determined, as the corpse had been placed in deep freeze and subsequently moved from apartment to apartment. The 43-year-old man claims that the infant died from natural causes and that he did not proceed with a burial out of fear.
He told police that at the child's birth in the maternity hospital they had replaced the infant with another whom he described as "demonic".
The role of the apartment manager
Decisive was the intervention of the manager of the short-term rental platform, who noticed that more people were living in the apartment than had been declared. According to his statement, he saw the 26-year-old striking the pregnant 15-year-old girl, and the presence of a child who did not resemble the other family members also raised his suspicion.
His report led to a police investigation during which the 43-year-old man, the 38-year-old woman who is his partner, the 26-year-old and three underage children were found. Drug tablets and cameras were also found in the apartment, and digital devices were seized and sent for forensic analysis.
Criminal charges and statement on Wednesday
Authorities are seeking answers regarding the manner and time of the infant's death, as well as the period during which the corpse remained in deep freeze. Criminal prosecution has been initiated at felony level for drug trafficking and for failure to report the discovery of a deceased person. The arrested individuals are expected to be brought before an investigating judge on Wednesday, 2 September.
