Larissa: Man held ex-wife hostage with axe and flammable liquid

A woman in Larissa found herself in a hostage situation at the hands of her ex-husband, who broke into her home whilst carrying an axe and a container of flammable substance.

The incident was broadcast live via video, revealing the terrifying situation experienced by the victim. The perpetrator, aged 50, was seen holding an axe and a liquid that could set the building ablaze, whilst repeatedly saying he would start a fire. Throughout, he directed the woman to move about the space and assured her that he would carry out his threats.

A court order restraining the perpetrator had been in place. In fact, he asked prosecutors and judges who had issued the order to be present at the scene.

The operation to free the victim required the intervention of a specialist mediator from the prosecuting authorities. Following prolonged consultations, the man relented and surrendered without incident. Today he is being brought before the prosecutor.
