Robbery in Agios Panteleimon: Elderly man beaten for gold cross

Violent robbery of elderly man in Agios Panteleimon — video records attack
Two perpetrators repeatedly beat an elderly man on Ionia Avenue in Agios Panteleimon on Thursday afternoon in order to remove the chain with the gold cross he was wearing around his neck. The incident was recorded in video footage, according to ERT.
In the footage, the two men can be seen launching successive punches at the victim's face — even after they have already removed their stolen items. The elderly man ends up wounded on the ground, whilst the perpetrators leave the scene.
According to information reported by ERT, the two men are known in the area and are alleged to have been involved in similar attacks in the past. Particular concern is caused, according to the same sources, by the degree of violence they employ when approaching their victims.
The incident brings back into focus attacks against unsuspecting citizens targeting jewellery. A similar incident had provoked reactions in June 2024, when a man snatched a chain with a cross from a swimmer during a live television broadcast from a beach in Alimos.
The new video from Agios Panteleimon highlights the fear caused by such robberies, particularly for elderly citizens.
