Lignadis: Fresh trial at appeals court for rape of minors
Theatre director and actor Dimitris Lignadis appeared before the appeals court of Loukareas, where a new judicial proceeding at second instance has begun. The defendant had been convicted at first instance to twelve years' imprisonment with suspended sentence for two cases of rape. He now faces trial again for three cases of sexual abuse of minor boys, which are said to have taken place in Epidaurus and in the Metaxourgeio area.
The court accepted the appeal filed by the prosecution against the previous decision. This means that Lignadis faces the risk of a heavier sentence compared to the first-instance decision.
During today's hearing, the Mixed Jury Court of Appeal is required to rule on the defence's request for the appointment of a specialist psychologist or psychiatrist as an expert witness. The aim is to assess the mental health and perceptual capacity of the persons who have filed complaints.
