Timeline of the incident
On Friday afternoon, the 31-year-old – who according to reports suffers from psychological problems – entered the Police Station armed with a knife. He moved threateningly towards a duty officer, while the sergeant and other police officers attempted to immobilise him.
Subsequently, as reported by ERT, the perpetrator went up to the 1st floor of the building, where the Security Department is located. Police officers trapped him in a room, however he repeatedly refused to comply with their clear orders to drop the knife.
He broke the door of the room and threw a flowerpot, with the result that fragments from the broken glass injured a police officer. He continued moving threateningly whilst holding the knife, whereupon one of the police officers drew his service weapon and shot him once in the abdominal area.
