EYP official files complaint over Predator — SYRIZA reopens wiretapping case

An active official of the National Intelligence Service has filed a complaint against four persons convicted in the case of wiretapping via Predator software. According to Dikastiko.gr, this move brings back into focus a case that, as SYRIZA notes, "the Court of Cassation has shelved three times".

The victim of the illegal surveillance held responsibility for the counterintelligence and organised crime departments at EYP. This fact, according to SYRIZA, heightens risks to national security and makes the matter particularly serious.

In a statement, SYRIZA stressed that the EYP official "is doing what prominent ministers of the Mitsotakis government, senior military and state officials who were monitored via illegal software avoided doing". The party assessed that, ultimately, "some crimes cannot be covered up, not even in Mr Mitsotakis's Greece".

SYRIZA said it expects and demands "the judiciary to move without any sign of inertia, postponement and obfuscation of the case", and posed a question to the government about whether it intends to assume responsibility.
