Six people were arrested in the afternoon of Monday, 14 September 2026 at the Special Correctional Facility for Young Adults in Aulona, according to reports from Newsit.gr. Among them is a correctional officer at the facility.
The operation was conducted by police officers from the Organised Crime Confrontation Service (ΔΑΟΕ), with the assistance of the Special Violent Crime Unit (ΕΚΑΜ) and in the presence of a prosecutor. The announcement of the results was made public the following day, Tuesday, 15 September.
The aim of the investigation was to dismantle criminal networks operating within correctional facilities. Searches of three cells led to the seizure of small quantities of cocaine, raw cannabis, and processed cannabis in "chocolate" form. Four mobile phones were also confiscated.
From the preliminary investigation it emerged that the five inmates arrested for drug possession were jointly distributing substances to their fellow inmates. The arrested individuals have previously been involved in similar and other cases and were brought before the prosecutor.
The correctional officer was found during the operation to be in possession of a makeshift cigarette containing raw cannabis. On the orders of the competent prosecutor, he was released.
