Criminal prosecution for assault on taxi driver in Nea Ionia
Criminal charges for intentionally inflicting serious bodily harm and threatening conduct have been brought by the prosecutor against a 35-year-old man who bit and cut off a piece of the ear of a 54-year-old taxi driver, according to in.gr. The accused has been referred to the investigating magistrate for questioning.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, when the 35-year-old passenger attacked the driver after she indicated that he needed to settle the fare. The problem began with difficulties in the signal of the POS terminal near his home.
"When I dropped him off at his home, he asked me to put in his card and it wouldn't work," the driver said. "We find the signal, he does the POS transaction and I turn around to go back to his place. I tell him, since you know you have a signal problem at home, make sure you have cash."
This remark by the driver triggered the attack. "I thought I was taking part in a cannibal film. With a madman cannibal," she said, describing the moments of terror she experienced and her struggle to survive.
