Before the investigating magistrate: 35-year-old faces violent assault charges against taxi driver in Nea Ionia

The 35-year-old arrested for the assault against a 54-year-old taxi driver in Nea Ionia was brought before the investigating magistrate today, according to Dikastiko.gr. A case file has been opened against him for serious bodily harm and threats, and he is expected to answer charges for the acts attributed to him.

According to reports, the accused has already submitted to the authorities a medical document certifying that he suffers from depression.

The incident on Demidesio Street

The incident took place at approximately 1 a.m. on Demidesio Street. The 54-year-old had picked up the 35-year-old from Kypselis and was transporting him to his destination. Upon arrival, a heated dispute broke out between them, as there was insufficient signal at the location for electronic payment to be processed.

According to reports, the 35-year-old is alleged to have grabbed the driver by the neck and attacked her by biting her on the ear, causing serious injury and mutilation of part of it. The woman managed to exit the taxi despite her injuries, whilst the 35-year-old is alleged to have followed her into the street, threatening her.

Intervention by bystanders and arrest by DIAS

Bystanders witnessed the assault and intervened, restraining the perpetrator until police arrived. Police officers from the DIAS unit rushed to the scene and proceeded to arrest him.

The 54-year-old was transported to Elpis hospital, where she received first aid. She remains under medical observation, having suffered serious shock from the assault.
