New appeal to the Court of Cassation over telephone interception case
A new petition has been filed with the Court of Cassation seeking the withdrawal of the case file relating to the telephone interception scandal and the use of the spyware Predator.
According to information cited by Protothema, lawyer Zacharias Kesses submitted the appeal, requesting that the founder of the Intellexa company be examined either as a witness or in another capacity. In the event that it is determined that the said individual cannot be called due to his first-instance conviction in the Predator case, the petition provides for the testimony of five executives of the company.
The surveillance case has prompted political and legal developments in the country, with the judiciary continuously examining new evidence. The present appeal focuses on the need to broaden the circle of persons being examined in order to clarify the conditions under which the illegal surveillance system operated.
