Fresh revelations are coming to light in the case of 20-year-old Theodori, who lost his life following a pursuit by officers of the Crime Prevention and Suppression Unit (OPKE) in Argos.
According to reports broadcast by Star, the magnetic resonance imaging conducted on the unfortunate young man shows a bullet embedded in his head. This finding comes to add to the existing evidence, which includes 13 spent cartridges at the scene of the incident and security camera footage recording at least 21 gunshots.
The 20-year-old, who had autism and was receiving a disability pension at a rate of 89 per cent, had gone for a swim in the sea on the fatal evening. Police officers began pursuing him, claiming they fired warning shots as the young man attempted to ram them with his vehicle.
The two police officers were remanded in custody at Korydallos prison on charges that were upgraded to manslaughter with possible intent. In their testimony they argued that they had no intention of killing the young man, characterising the incident as a "terrible moment".
The family's lawyer, Maria Sfetsou, speaking to the Newspaper of Editors, emphasised that the bullet found in the skull is intact and did not come from a ricochet, a fact that suggests a direct shot. "It is better that a criminal escape than that a sick person be killed," she stated characteristically.
The victim's family intends to appoint its own expert for the ballistics examination that is expected to take place, whilst it is planning to file a lawsuit for emotional damages. In the meantime, political organisations and opposition parties have scheduled protest gatherings calling for a full investigation into the case.
