Dead woman on cycle path – her partner spoke of attack by unknown assailants

The body of a young woman was discovered at the first kiosk on the Igoumenitsa cycle path, lying in a pool of blood, with stab wounds to the neck and legs. According to Proto Thema, the 25-year-old Greek national died from injuries caused by a sharp object, whilst her 27-year-old partner was found wounded in dense vegetation near the location.

The 27-year-old was the one who alerted police and requested assistance. Before being transported to hospital by an EKAB ambulance, he told police officers that unknown assailants had attacked both him and his partner. He is said to have sustained an injury from a sharp object; however, according to initial reports, he has no external wounds that would corroborate his claim.

Strong police forces cordoned off the area, while an investigation is underway into the circumstances surrounding the incident. The 27-year-old is expected to give a statement to authorities once his condition permits.

Among the scenarios being examined by authorities is an incident of domestic violence that may have resulted in the woman's death. At the same time, the involvement of a third party is not ruled out, a detail that corresponds with the partner's claim of an attack by unknown assailants.

The 27-year-old's statement and the findings of the forensic examination are expected to play a decisive role in clarifying the case, helping authorities to establish a complete picture of the events.
