Woman dead from stab wounds on Igoumenitsa cycle path
The body of a 25-year-old woman was found at the first kiosk on the Igoumenitsa cycle path, according to reports by thetoc.gr. The young Greek national had wounds to the neck and legs, possibly from a knife, according to initial information cited by Epiruspost.
A short distance from the body, the woman's 27-year-old partner was found injured, apparently having also sustained blows from a sharp object. He was the one who called the police and requested assistance. Officers found the woman in a pool of blood.
An ambulance from the national ambulance service arrived at the scene to collect the 27-year-old and transport him to hospital. Before being transferred, the man told police that unknown perpetrators had attacked both of them.
The area has been cordoned off by substantial police forces, whilst an investigation is underway into the circumstances of the incident. Among the scenarios being examined by authorities is the possibility of domestic violence resulting in the woman's death and the man's injury. At the same time, the involvement of a third party has not been ruled out.
Statements to be taken are expected to be crucial to the development of the case, as are the findings of the forensic examination, which authorities believe will help establish the full picture.
The 27-year-old, who was found in dense vegetation, is expected to give a statement once his state of health permits.
