Infant in Kypseli: autopsy reveals more than 10 knife wounds to back
A boy aged approximately 8-9 months is the infant found dead in a suitcase in Kypseli, according to Google News GR — Crime (el). This information emerged from the autopsy conducted in the afternoon of the previous day.
According to reports, death resulted from a large-bladed knife — possibly a kitchen knife. The detail that has caused particular shock is that more than 10 wounds were found on the infant's back, which indicates that the baby was lying face down at the time of the assault.
Today, the preliminary procedure for taking statements regarding the charge of infanticide is expected to commence. In parallel, a prosecutor's order is awaited for examination of the minor children in the presence of a psychologist.
The three minors — a 15-year-old girl and two boys aged 9 and 12 — are in protective custody in a hospital under police surveillance.
Police spokesperson Konstantia Dimoglídou stated to ERT that information is being investigated regarding possible involvement of the children in the past with social services or prosecutorial authorities. However, she clarified that police records show no criminal involvement of the parents thus far.
Dimoglídou described the examination of the minors by child psychologists as critical. DNA examinations are in progress with the aim of establishing whether the three children are indeed members of the same family and what their relationship is to the deceased infant.
The authorities are also examining digital evidence seized from the apartment. "There is digital evidence which is being examined at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, as we need to establish whether crimes have been committed by the parents against the minor children," Dimoglídou stated. At the same time, police authorities are investigating any possible crime against the minors who were in the apartment.
