9-month-old infant found with dozens of knife wounds in Kypseli — preliminary investigation into infanticide begins

A boy aged approximately 8 to 9 months is the infant who was discovered inside a suitcase in Kypseli, according to Newsbeast. These details emerged from an autopsy conducted on the afternoon of the previous day.

According to reports, the murder was carried out with a large-bladed knife — likely a kitchen knife. The infant bears more than 10 wounds to the back, a fact which suggests it was lying face-down at the time of the attack.

Preliminary investigation proceedings and testimony of minors

Today, the preliminary investigation proceedings for taking statements regarding the crime of infanticide are expected to begin. In parallel, the issuance of a prosecutorial order for the examination of minor children in the presence of a psychologist is anticipated.

The 15-year-old, as well as the two boys aged 9 and 12, are in protective custody status in a hospital under the supervision of the Hellenic Police.

DNA testing and digital evidence

The spokesperson for the Hellenic Police, Konstantia Dimoglidu, speaking to ERT, confirmed that information is being investigated regarding the children's past contacts with social services or prosecutorial authorities. According to police records, there is currently no indication of the parents' involvement in criminal cases.

Dimoglidu described the examination of minors by specialist child psychologists as critical. DNA testing is also underway, with the aim of establishing whether the three children are indeed members of the same family and what their relationship is to the dead infant.

Digital evidence seized from the apartment is being examined by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations. "There is digital evidence which is being examined at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, as we must establish whether crimes have been committed by the parents against the minor children," Dimoglidu stated characteristically.

The authorities are investigating any possible crime against the minors, whilst at the same time attempting to clarify the exact relationships between the individuals who lived in the apartment.
