Cameras recorded the moment when a pastry shop employee in Nikaia confronted an armed perpetrator using a simple cleaning tool, forcing him to abandon the shop.

On the evening of Sunday 5 July, a pastry shop in Nikaia became the target of a robbery. The employee who was in the shop at that time did not back down in the face of the threat, but reacted in a way that forced the intruder to flee.
According to reporting from in.gr, the incident began at 22:42. A man with covered features — a hat, mask and gloves — entered the shop holding a weapon. He threatened the employee and demanded that she open the till.
The woman, who was cleaning at that moment, did not lose her composure. When the perpetrator turned to look towards the door, she pressed the alarm button and hid behind the display cases with the food items. The intruder fired three times, but the noise produced did not sound like a real weapon. The employee realised it was fake and decided to act.
"From the sound of the shot it went 'pat-pat', that is, it was one of those things we get at the fairground. I realised the weapon was not real," she told in.gr.
She came out of her hiding place, took the mop she had left near the till and began hitting the robber. The perpetrator, unable to react, opened the till, grabbed whatever money he found and fled running.
The shop has been targeted repeatedly in the past. The owner reported that 21 robberies have been recorded in recent years. In March there had been another incident, whilst at New Year the same employee and a colleague had experienced a similar ordeal.
The owner noted that the perpetrator on Sunday was different from previous cases — he appeared to be approximately 58 years old, whilst the previous perpetrators had been younger.
The Greek police are investigating the escape route of the suspect in the surrounding streets of Nikaia. The authorities are seeking material from cameras in the area and testimony from passers-by. The owners of the pastry shop state that they feel exposed and are requesting greater police presence in the area.
