An 82-year-old man died following a violent fight on Vouliagmeni beach, a seaside resort located approximately twenty kilometres from central Athens, according to bfmtv.com, citing Greek media.
The incident occurred shortly before 10 a.m. A 76-year-old man, accompanied by a 21-year-old woman, had a heated dispute with the octogenarian over a deckchair, according to Greek news agency ANA and public broadcaster ERT, both relaying information from the police.
The verbal quarrel subsequently escalated into a physical confrontation between the two men. The incident took place on a managed beach with paid access, in one of the most sought-after seaside areas of the Athens region.
The 82-year-old man was rushed to hospital, where he died. The authorities have not yet established whether the death resulted directly from the blows received or from a medical condition that occurred during the altercation.
The 76-year-old man and the 21-year-old woman were arrested. Greek police are continuing their investigation into the exact circumstances of the incident.
