Eight foreign nationals aged 17 to 27 were located and arrested in Lykovrysi in the early hours of 29 August, according to Newsbeast. Police officers from the DIAS team, during a routine patrol, stopped a suspicious vehicle carrying several people in the area. Searches in the wider zone led to the discovery of the eight foreign nationals, who did not have valid documents for lawful residence in the country.

According to preliminary investigation findings, the eight had illegally crossed the Greek-Turkish border on 27 August. They were immediately handed over by smugglers and transferred initially to Thessaloniki, where they remained in a "safe house". They were subsequently taken to Athens, with final destinations being the United Kingdom and Sweden.

The smuggling cost ranged from €5,000 to €17,000 per person, according to the Hellenic Police. The eight were referred to the Directorate for Aliens in Attica, where the Migration Management Department took over the preliminary investigation. A case file was filed against them for violation of aliens legislation.

In parallel, procedures were initiated for their registration and mapping in order to implement their return to their country of origin. The detainees were taken before the competent prosecutor, according to APA-MPA.
