Police officers from Greece's police force entered an apartment on Sophocles Street in Nikaia and immobilised a couple, ending a hostage situation, according to Newsbeast. The 44-year-old woman eventually opened the door, allowing police officers to enter the house immediately.
The incident began when it was reported that the 49-year-old man had locked himself in the house with his wife, refusing to let her leave, while he reportedly claimed to be armed. The couple reportedly has a psychiatric history.
Police cordoned off the area around Sophocles Street and temporarily interrupted traffic on surrounding roads. A police negotiator was dispatched to the scene to manage the situation.
The operation ended without further escalation. To date, it has not been revealed whether a weapon was found inside the apartment.
