The case of a 45-year-old woman's disappearance in Chania came to a tragic conclusion when her 43-year-old tenant admitted to the crime. The man, after twenty-two days, confessed to the prosecuting authorities that he killed the victim and transported her to a rural area for burial.

Police officers located the body at the location indicated by the perpetrator himself. The corpse bore signs of violent attack, including wounds from a sharp object in the thoracic area, as well as blows to the head from a blunt object. The unfortunate woman was bound at the extremities, and had tape over her mouth.

From the outset, the prosecuting authorities had turned their attention to the 43-year-old. He had appeared in the media as distraught, claiming that he maintained friendly relations with the victim.

According to what he is said to have stated, the argument started when the woman threatened to reveal their relationship to his wife. The man described how he struck her on the head with a bottle, and when she began to scream, he gagged her and subsequently stabbed her. He then transported her in his vehicle a distance of approximately ten kilometres from the house and buried her in a field near Vatolakka.

The defendant will appear before the prosecutor on Monday, facing charges of manslaughter.
