Xanthi crime prevention unit: 18 arrests for electricity theft in three months, drug checks conducted
The Crime Prevention and Mediation Unit of Xanthi Police Directorate made 18 arrests for electricity theft over three months. Illegal vendors and drug trafficking were also checked.

Google News GR — Crime (el) reports that the Crime Prevention and Mediation Unit of Special Force (OPDI) of Xanthi Police Directorate carried out a series of operations against criminal activity in the Drosero settlement, located two kilometres from the city, as well as in Xanthi's city centre.
Police officers accompanied crews from DEDDHEE to locate and disconnect illegal electricity connections in the settlement. Over a three-month period, the OPDI made a total of 18 arrests for electricity theft.
In detail, in April there were five arrests and 30 illegal connections were disconnected. In May there followed six arrests with 95 illegal electricity connections cut, whilst in June authorities proceeded to seven arrests and removed 49 illegal connections.
At the same time, in a square in Xanthi police arrested an illegal street vendor. Regular checks on the city's streets for drugs and weapons are usually conducted with the assistance of a police dog.
According to police, in May alone 4,120 people were checked in Xanthi and arrests were made for theft, drugs, weapons, domestic violence, electricity theft and other offences. Statistical figures show a reduction in criminal activity in the city, according to the same source.
