A 32-year-old was arrested in Oropos following a complaint of physical abuse of his wife. The man is alleged to have attacked the woman again while under the influence of alcohol, recording the beating with his mobile phone to upload it to the internet.
His 30-year-old wife had suffered attacks for a long time. Her body bore bruises, burns and injuries from a sharp object. She had gone to the police station many times, but always withdrew her complaints.
On Tuesday the incident spiralled out of control. The perpetrator, intoxicated, beat his wife in front of their 8-year-old son's eyes. He recorded video footage and published it with a comment encouraging others to watch the victim crying. He then fell asleep.
The woman fled the house and went to the police station to report the incident. Her husband, along with the child, searched for her. Police officers located him and took him into custody. The minor child told police officers that his father threw the mobile phone into the sea before his arrest, attempting to destroy evidence.
Authorities examined the device and found numerous files depicting the woman undergoing violent behaviour. Some had already been published online. Sexual content material was also discovered, and investigations are ongoing to determine whether it had been posted on social media by him.
