In the early hours in Athens, a taxi driver fell victim to an armed robbery by a couple who used a particular method to avoid raising suspicion. The incident was recorded by security cameras in the Pankrati area.
According to material gathered by authorities, a man and a woman were seen walking arm-in-arm in Plastira Square, giving the appearance of a couple enjoying their evening stroll. This approach was intended not to arouse any suspicion among passers-by.
A few minutes later, the couple stopped a taxi and asked to be taken to Aigaleo. The driver suspected nothing, as the passengers' behaviour seemed entirely natural. When the vehicle reached its destination, however, the situation changed dramatically.
The man grabbed the professional by the shirt and held a blade to his neck. The driver, who had initially not perceived the danger, suddenly found himself facing a threat to his life. "As soon as I turned around, I saw him threatening me," he stated characteristically.
The perpetrator demanded that the driver hand over whatever money he had on him. The driver attempted to resist, but the threats to his life were clear. "He told me not to continue because he would kill me," he said. The perpetrators also took his mobile phone.
Ultimately, the driver was forced to hand over approximately 500 euros from his shift's takings. The couple disappeared immediately afterwards, whilst the professional reported the incident to the authorities.
