Police from the Organised Crime Directorate identified and dismantled an illegal casino operating behind the façade of a food establishment in Athens, according to reports from Dikastiko.gr. The operation was carried out as part of a targeted investigation by the authorities.

During the police operation, a total of five people were arrested: the owner of the establishment, the person responsible for its operation, and three foreign nationals who were present in the premises and were participating in the illegal gambling.

Unlicensed cameras and extensive electronic equipment

During the inspection, police discovered a complete surveillance system of the premises, comprising numerous cameras, for which the required installation and operation licence had not been issued.

Previous involvement in criminal organisation case

Police emphasise that the specific establishment was not in the spotlight of the authorities for the first time. In the past, it had been involved in a case concerning the dismantling of a criminal organisation, whose members are alleged to have been active in the organisation and conduct of gambling games through unlicensed online platforms.

Furthermore, according to evidence from the current case, those involved are alleged to have defrauded customers who participated in the illegal games.

The five arrested individuals were taken to the competent prosecuting authority.
