A court in Patras convicted a 35-year-old man of domestic violence against a 17-year-old girl, despite the alleged victim herself denying any form of abuse during the hearing.
The minor appeared in court alongside the defendant and testified in his favour. According to her account, the confrontation began when the 35-year-old read messages that her former partner had sent to her. This provoked an intense quarrel between them.
Later, the man went to the girl's residence to retrieve some belongings of hers, whilst her mother was outside the apartment building. There the argument resumed, resulting in a resident of the area notifying the police.
The 17-year-old denied that the defendant prevented her from leaving the house, claiming that the door had stuck due to wear and tear over time. She also asserted that the scratches that were presented came from a previous quarrel with her sister and not from the 35-year-old.
The court was not persuaded by the minor's arguments. The judge found the defendant guilty and imposed a two-year custodial sentence with suspension, which will remain in effect until the appeal is heard.
