Five arrests for fires caused by negligence in four regions
Five people were arrested for fire outbreaks caused by negligence and for violations of fire safety regulations in Phthiotis, Serres, East Attica and Rhodes.

As part of checks to ensure compliance with fire protection measures, teams from the Directorate for Combating Arson Crimes proceeded to arrest five individuals in different areas of the country.
In the Stylis area of Phthiotis, a 63-year-old man was arrested following a fire caused during the use of agricultural machinery on 27 June. In the Municipality of Sintiki in Serres, a foreign national was arrested for a fire that broke out on 26 June during the operation of a harvester, resulting in the destruction of twenty hectares of crops and approximately one hundred olive trees.
In East Attica, two men aged 39 and 52 were arrested for violations of article 265 of the Penal Code. The first was carrying out hot work in Keratea, whilst the second was using a barbecue in Markopoulo despite a ban due to high fire risk. In both cases, fines of 3,000 euros were imposed.
In the Theologos area of Rhodes, a 56-year-old man left a petrol-driven irrigation pump running and departed, resulting in the fire spreading to an adjacent forest area.
According to official figures, from the start of 2026 to 27 June, 484 fines totalling over 552,000 euros have been imposed, whilst 128 arrests have been made, with 93.75 per cent concerning cases of negligence.
