Atropine in honey jar: How the poisoning of a doctor in Peristeri was uncovered
The military doctor living in Peristeri began to suspect something was wrong when he noticed that his symptoms of illness appeared almost always after eating. According to Naftemporiki, the first incidents date back to last February.
The doctor decided to install security cameras in his home. On Sunday afternoon, the system recorded his estranged wife – 41 years old – adding a substance to a jar of honey. The substance was found to be atropine.
The doctor immediately notified the police. The woman attempted to flee, followed by a pursuit from officers of the DIAS unit and was ultimately arrested at a nearby restaurant. In video footage that circulated, she can be heard shouting for help during her arrest.
According to information from ERT, the parents of the accused woman are also involved in the case. Both were arrested; they were found in close proximity inside a car, in which officers discovered approximately 10 litres of atropine and medical equipment.
