The "Popular Rally" of the region issued a statement via 902.gr, in which it denounces the municipal leader for attempting to place responsibility on the victim's family instead of on the officers involved.
According to the political group, shootings against an unarmed pedestrian cannot be characterised as mishandling, especially when bullets strike the head and result in death. The incident falls, according to the Popular Rally, within a broader pattern of police repression that serves anti-popular policies.
The group characterises the incident as homicide and argues that the detention of the accused officers is justified. It also notes that the mayor's stance comes as no surprise, as the Popular Rally claims he systematically defends government decisions.
The statement raises questions about support measures offered to persons with disabilities by the state and local authorities, as well as about the funding of structures for social solidarity.
Meanwhile, the Popular Rally calls on citizens of Argos and Argolida to attend a protest gathering on Tuesday 14 July at 8:30 pm outside the old Town Hall. Organisations of the Communist Party and the Communist Youth of Argolida will participate in the event, with the central demand being that the matter should not be covered up.
