Head of Mykonos Urban Planning Authority placed on suspension: ancient amphora and drugs found at home
The head of Mykonos Urban Planning Authority has been placed on suspension following an Internal Affairs investigation that discovered an amphora, narcotics and official documents at his residence.

The head of Mykonos Urban Planning Authority was placed on suspension on Tuesday morning by decision of the island's mayor, Christos Veronis. According to Dikastiko.gr, this action was an immediate consequence of a written notification sent to the municipal authority by the Cycla des Prosecutor's Office, informing that preliminary examination proceedings have been initiated against the official for serious criminal offences.
A crucial role in the decision to suspend the official was played by an operation carried out by officials from the Internal Affairs Service at the home of the head of the authority the previous Tuesday. During the search, police officers discovered numerous official documents directly connected to cases handled by the Urban Planning Authority.
At the same time, authorities seized an amphora falling under the protective provisions of archaeological legislation, as well as a small quantity of narcotics. These findings strengthened the evidentiary framework already existing in the prosecutorial investigation.
According to information from the preliminary examination, the head of the service is being investigated for the commission of felonies. The charges being investigated include misconduct in office, bribery, false certification, forgery and document removal.
The case was formally initiated eight days earlier, when the Cyclades Prosecutor's Office ordered an extensive investigation into the entirety of the Urban Planning Authority of Mykonos's activities, assigning the file to the "incorruptible" officers of the Hellenic Police. The authorities' checks are continuing in order to determine the full extent of urban planning cases in which irregularities have been detected.
