Six people have been remanded in custody following their depositions for involvement in a bribery and extortion network operating within building services in Attica.

Six people have been remanded in custody following lengthy depositions before the Corruption Investigator, as they are accused of participation in an organised network operating within building services in Attica. According to Newsbeast, the proceedings lasted from morning until late evening.
Among the six being held are employees of public services, supervisors, and a private engineer. The prosecution believes that leading figures in the network were a couple who held critical positions. In total, the file contains more than thirty individuals, including architects, engineers and businesspeople.
The charges they face are serious: forming and directing a criminal organisation, bribery, corruption, breach of duty and money laundering. During their depositions, all of them asserted their innocence, stating that they never received illegal sums in exchange for performing their duties.
The case began to be uncovered in 2024 following anonymous reports of extortion. Members of the network are alleged to have exploited their positions and connections to intervene in cases involving building permits, legalisation of unauthorised structures, reduction of fines and pending files, in exchange for payment. In some cases, their demands reached €30,000.
The investigation is continuing, with the authorities examining whether their activities extended to other municipalities and services.
