Kamburis remanded in custody for fraud against EFKA

According to dnews.gr, Philippos Kamburis, president of LA.O.S. and television presenter, together with his wife, was remanded in custody for fraud against EFKA. Six of the eleven arrested were ordered to be held in custody, whilst the remainder were released with restrictive conditions.

The statements of the eleven accused were completed in the early morning hours, having commenced at 9 the previous morning and lasted 17 hours. The examining magistrate and prosecutor determined that Kamburis and his wife had a leading role in the criminal organisation, causing damage of approximately €1.5 million to EFKA and a deficit to public funds of approximately €5 million.

Along with the Kamburis couple, a remand in custody was imposed on one of the accused accountants, as well as the person known as "koltumpa", who is said to have had the role of a "straw man" in the ring, together with his partner. Upon announcement of his remand, the latter burst into tears. A further woman of Romanian origin remains in custody due to a European arrest warrant relating to a separate case.

The remaining five accused were released with restrictive conditions, which include a prohibition on leaving the country, mandatory appearance at a police station, and bail of between €4,000 and €8,000 in each instance.
